Nate was in need a of a few cloth diapers, but instead of heading online and purchasing a few, I thought I would try my hand at sewing him some. I have just a few very small and simple sewing projects under my belt, but after doing some research online, the consensus seemed to be that it was relatively easy to sew your own cloth diapers. So, why not?
I went looking for a free diaper pattern and found one that received lots of great reviews on the fit as well as the ease of using the pattern and putting it all together. I then found this video on YouTube of a woman showing how to sew this exact pattern, and so I felt confident in moving forward with this crazy idea.
It took me about three times longer to complete the pattern than it said it would take, but after I made the last stitch and held it up for inspection, I was incredibly pleased with myself. I couldn’t believe how well it turned out. I mean, I was really, really proud of myself. And considering I had picked up this fabric from the remnants bin of JoAnn Fabric, which was marked 50% off the original price, then they were having an additional 50% off the remnants, I got a great deal on it. So then I just had to pick up the thread and some elastic, and that was all I needed.
This is a pocket diaper, with a little pocket in the back where I can add extra inserts to make it more absorbant, and then all I do is pin it closed, put on a waterproof cover (which I already have), and there you have it! An incredibly inexpensive diaper, made with love!

Wow! I am so impressed! Sewing is not a gift have. Well, patience and an eye for perfection are actually what I lack.
Courtney, you have become such an awesome, crafty Mom. One day (not TOO soon) you’ll have to teach me.
Thanks! And, oh goodness, there is certainly no eye for perfection here. With this first one I was just hoping that the final product would resemble something which could somehow be fastened to his body to hold in all the pee and poop!
I am SO INTRIGUED by cloth diapers. I used disposables for my now-potty-trained-daughter, but am seriously considering cloth when we have another child. Would you consider writing a post about your experience using cloth diapers?
(And you KNOW I love that you sewed this one. Great job!)

PLEASE move back here and be my baby’s crafty nanny. PLEASE! You’re my hero.
I truly believe that there is no single task that you cannot tackle, girl! It amazes me all the things you try, do, and are successful at!! I want to start making my own salad dressings. Do you have tried and true recipes for those?
