Nate doesn’t take naps that often anymore (sometimes, every once and a while, I will get lucky and he will actually fall asleep!), but I still try to get him to go to his room for some quiet time.
He and Will have a bathroom in between their bedrooms, so he has access to it from his room. These photos are from three different days:

He came out of his room with this toilet paper “scarf”. “My neck was cold,” he said.

This day he came out with bandaids all over his hand. I found this slightly impressive considering he’s right-handed, but he used his left hand to meticulously apply them to his right hand. That takes skill!

“I needed bandaids for my boo-boos,” he told me. I noticed there was one on his chin and a few on his feet. I didn’t notice these on his “boobies” and belly button until bath time!

My boy, the boy who made me a mommy, turns four years old today.
This year, just like the year he was born, is an election year. I remember when we came home from the hospital, I stayed in bed for a week or two, just me and Nate, resting and nursing and trying to figure it all out. We of course weren’t getting much sleep then, so we kept the TV in the bedroom on all the time, just lowering the volume when we fell asleep. I remember there had just been a few presidential primaries around that time, and we tended to keep the TV on Fox News, so all during those first few days and weeks of Nate’s little life all I heard over and over again was Obama and Huckabee, Huckabee and Obama. I guess those two were the front runners at the time (remember Mike Huckabee? and Obama…well, we know how that turned out…). But during the haze and fogginess of all that brand new baby time, I remember hearing those two names over and over again and thinking what strange names they were and how funny they seemed.
And now it’s been four years since then. It only took four years to get from this

to this

Nate, thank you for making me a mommy. I’m so glad it was you…

A few months ago I met a new friend, Misty. We met through a local meeting of Dallas area creatives (why I was there, I have no idea!), and we instantly clicked. She has just recently started her photography business as well, so we had a lot to talk about.
She graciously offered to take pictures of me and the boys, and when she sent them to me, I fell in love! Misty, thank you!!

Dry Lucky Charms, in which only the marshmallows will be picked out and eaten, are totally a real snack, right?

A warning: There are 143 pictures in this post. Yes, really, 143. You now have my permission to skip this post and check back in a few days for something new!
I decided to do a little project where, for one day, I took pictures of my daily life, the things I do, the places I go, things like that. I thought it might be interesting to check back on this in a few years to be reminded of how things were at this exact moment in my life.
These pictures were all taken on November 28th, 2011. I captured my life in all of it’s everyday-ness, all the ordinary, normal things I do day in and day out, and then a few things that were special for this day. Like decorating the Christmas tree. We had put the Christmas tree up after Thanksgiving, but we hadn’t decorated it yet. Nate, Matt, and I got to do that after Will went to bed.
I also captured my morning with the boys, Nate’s green Christmas lights strung in his room, coffee, some household chores, the making of bread and scrambled eggs, the boys and all their playtimes, a little boy who wants to know if he’s grown bigger yet, some errands, lunch, nap time, a tantrum by Will over some frustration or perceived wrongdoing, more errands, bath time, dinner, and then decorating the Christmas tree. Taking all these pictures and then editing them was quite the task, but I’m so glad I did it. Things seem to be changing daily around here, so I’m so happy I have this record of this one day.

I know everybody is done with Christmas and ready to move on (I know all the stores are, for sure, because the few places where we went shopping the day after Christmas already had the Christmas stuff down and the Valentine’s Day stuff up!), but I wanted to post some pictures of our Christmas morning. I didn’t take as many pictures as I would like, and pretty much stopped altogether once all our family started arriving, but I did get a few of us first thing Christmas morning.
We had such a nice Christmas, and I’m pretty sure both boys had a blast! We are lucky to live close to most of our family, and even luckier that everyone was willing to come over to our house for Christmas! It was very nice not having to worry about packing both kids up and traveling around. We instead all stayed home, the boys played, and we had different family members stopping off all throughout the day…perfect!
2011 was a wonderful Christmas for us!

Earlier this month Nate and I baked some cookies which he then decorated with Granny (my mom).

Nate also got to visit Santa at the YMCA (Santa didn’t arrive until after Will’s bedtime, so he missed out on this one.)

But Will was most definitely there for this visit with Santa!

At the Christmas Eve service at church all the kids got to dress up like a person or animal from the nativity story. Nate is dressed as a donkey (he is in the back, near the middle).

The boys with Grandpa.

What a merry Christmas we all had!!
